The “Three ‘R’s” for SRCC in 2023: Review, Reflect, and Resolve
As in past years on the first Sunday of the New Year, the elders will share insights from the past year and look ahead to the coming year. Dennis and I will do that again today.
In American educational colloquialism the “Three ‘R’s” are “Reading, ‘Riting, & ‘Rithmetic.” I have adapted that idea to SRCC, Storrs Road Church of Christ. In our text for today, Philippians 1:1-11. Paul remembers (3-6), reflects (7-8), and resolves (9-11). Let us follow his example.
Today is a time to REVIEW—look at where we have been and what has happened in this congregation and its ministry. The review may include:
Our ethnic and social diversity;
Our ministry with college persons;
Our teaching ministry;
Our ministry in the community;
Our evangelistic outreach.
Today is a time to REFLECT—meditate and calmly assess our situation and proposed activities as a congregation. This reflection may include:
Our future as a congregation;
Our formerly stated priorities;
Our unity as a congregation;
Our mission as a united congregation;
Our commitment and involvement to this congregation.
Today is a time to RESOLVE—that which we will determine to do or become, both personally and as a congregation. What should our resolutions include? While Dennis and I will share our personal resolutions, this list must include your own personal resolutions and the united voice of this church. The above suggestions are more appropriate for discussion in our forthcoming congregational meeting on January 15th.
